Anyone tell me what is the best header for this year /model?  Looking at several but am relying on the BrainTrust to steer me away from disaaster!  Maybe even steer me to the right vender?

I am using hooker feeding into the sidepipes. I have had them up and down several times, no issues. I know there are many manufacturers products that should work well with your setup.  I have an older 427 block, not sure if yours will afford you a little more room ?

I know some Vetteheads swear by (not at) Sanderson as a premier maker of aftermarket headers. I haven't used them myself, though, so I can't really say one way or the other. They do look awfully nice...

I'm with Scott78; a Hooker fan. My soon-to-be-installed pair are (antique!) chrome, so they don't have the Jet-Hot coating that helps hold down the prodigious heat output from our engines, and that also helps prevent corrosion. Two factors to consider as you ponder your choices...

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary model. Original L82 engine, 700r4 trans, edelbrock intake, thorly headers, rack&pinion steering, mono rear and front spring, MSD 6A box
On my 78 L-82 I am using Thorley headers. Have had them on for a year and am very happy with them.  So far have not had any leaks or other issues.

I vote for Sanderson. Excellent quality and the thickest flanges I've ever seen on any make headers. They shouldn't allow their bolts to back out.

No matter what make you decide on, don't buy raw finish or painted. Get coated headers. They're more expensive but worth it. They'll last far longer and look far better.

Vette(s): 1979 Red L-48 Corvette with Doeskin interior, 3-speed automatic, 3.55 rear; 1986 L-98 Coupe, 4+3 Manual - Satin Black and Purple (SCCA TT/Hillclimb Car); 1993 White LT-1 Coupe, Black Interior, 6-speed
I went with shorties with the jet-hot coating. Great and it gave me a bit more room under the car.

Ditto with Paul. Tux has Flowtech's and they went on easy with no hassles. Thats a BBBIIIGGG plus when ya are working in tight confinements. Now the proof will be how long they last.....

I decided to go with sanderson CC1AP - Small Block Chevy Blockhuggers, silver ceramic coated. I started getting a headache when trying to sort through all the different applications from hedder comapnies and the temptation to slap people behind the counter at the parts store was just too great. Also I just couldn't bring myself to dent tubes to make them fit. They are installing on a 383 with angle plug alum heads, I am planning on running 2.5" dual exhaust  and flowmaster mufflers. Sanderson assured me that I wouldn't have any issues with brackets are clearance with these. Guess well see when I drop the engine in.
