For quite some time now I've had a ticking/clicking noise coming from the right side of my '82, in the engine area. My usual Vette guy and I decided it was not the valve train on the r/h side of the engine, but the fuel injector on the right side (looking forward). The car has just turned 68,000 miles.

I've done the GM fuel/injector cleaner (with sulfer treatment) and Lucas fuel injection cleaner as well. Still have a tick/click sound.

Seems to settle/quiet down when the engine is warm after a bit of distance and about 3o minutes of travel time has gone by. Sometimes a slight tick/click can be heard...but minor.

There is no hesitation or jerking of the engine...still runs quite smoothly.

Time for new injectors? Or am I hunting the 'wrong fox'??

Thanx!

Ive heard of injectors ticking before but never talked with anyone who had the problem themselves.  Ive never heard mine "tick" but with my hearing it would have to be pretty loud fo rme to hear.  replacement injectors are available but they aint cheap at over $200.00 each.  There are companies who offer rebuild services such as www.fuelinjectorconnection.com

Injectors will ALL "tick"...that's how they work. Some are just louder than others. On a TBI system, such as the Crossfire, it's unusual to actually be able to hear them over the air rushing past the throttle blades, plus, they are pulsing quite a bit faster than a TPI(or other) type system that has an injector on every cylinder.
The TBI injectors are fairly easy to replace....I've done many of them over the years. I'd say go for new infectors, and get two TBI rebuild kits, which will have all of the gaskets you'll need to swap them out. I don't have part numbers handy, but....the TBIs/injectors on the Crossfire are actually from the  Cadillac parts bin. A little cheaper if you're buying Cad parts than Corvette....
The last ones I got about 3-4 years ago were only around $30 each...from the dealer.

WOW...  thats quite a bit different from cost of the ones with the "corvette tax" added.  Adam, what year cadillacs would I be looking for?

Yeah, the ticking is somewhat normal for CFI TB's. I can actually hear mine tick once in a while over the side pipes.
I had both my TB's rebuilt locally for under $70 total and all was fine. New cost is way high, so if you have a good local company to do rebuild, I'd go that way. Sounds like your injectors are good though.

A few tank fulls of Chevron gas with a bottle of Techron per tank may do wonders for your injection system. I use about 90% Chevron premium and every 3 - 4 months I dump a bottle of Techron in a full tank.
Thumbs Up

Part # for the injector "kit" are:
17078846 (front)
17078827 (rear)
This is for the injectors, and the gasket/o-rings, and I believe the pressure regulator diaphragm.
The original design used the TBI from the '81- Cad 6 cylinder(V6). I'll look and see if I can come up with the info...
