Hey guys. As you know the original 1977 exhaust used a Y-pipe formation to accomidate the new addition of the catalytic convertor. However since my dad knows an emtions guy, andd the DMV already came to the house and seen the cat under the car before I took it apart, I should be ok. No one will have to know that there is not cat under the car. However the exhaust system I wanted to do was simple. Just two straight pipes going back, attatched to dynomax's super turbo mufflers, as you can see here: http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?Ntt=dynomax+super+ turbo&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&searchinresults=fa lse&N=0&target=egnsearch.asp Part number: WLK-17482

Is there any systems that I can order online that would fit a 1977 with these mufflers, or am I better off going to a meidas, or something and have them custom cut/weld me a new system?

Thanks guys,

-Louis

Check with your D.M.V.,In a lot of states now ,if your car is 25 years old or older, you dont need to run CATS,if so you can run true dualsfrom the manifolds straight back to the back bumper, you can get them through any of the catalogs, they are usually labeled for OFF ROAD USE ONLY,it should be cheaper for you to do it yourself, maybe not, check with D.M.V. first ,to make sure you can do it

I checked on my DMV's website and their manual showed that there needs to be at least one catalytic convertor on a car from 1975 and above. All cars from 1974 and below don't need to have one. However I can get a roudn not having to have one of thjose piece of crap things on my car. Just remember.... CATS SUCK!!!!

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

You could go with high performance cats, your performance will be fine, and you will be legal.  Other than that, the exhaust system for a 74 will work on your car.  That is a true dual exhaust.

The cats are only a bad thing when there is too much restriction.  With the dual high performance cats, that won't be a problem.

Summit probably carries these.  If not check Jegs, etc.  you can find them.

I used the mid america dual chambered exhaust kit with 2.5" dia pipes. It worked out great. I did take it to a muffler shop to weld it all togther for me so I can get rid of all the clamps. It was loud and mean and I loved it, but not my neighors. they asked me to quiet it down so I put some flowmaster 50's in back. If I did it again though, I would find a smaller in overall size muffler, those flowmasters are huge, but they sound deep and mellow with a 270 duration .5 lift cam.

From what I understand if your car came with Cats, the EPA says it must ALWAYS have Cats thereafter.  The issue is that most states stop requiring you to be tested after your car is 25 years old.  So you're still breaking the law, but no one knows or seems to care.  As soon as my '81 is tested for the final time in December, I suspect I may lose the Cat on a bumpy road and forget to replace it when I install an all new exhaust.

I even passed emissions with out any cats! I just had the carb in perfect tune from a dyno shop before I took it in for the sniffer test.

I think that in theory any pollution control devices that came on the car should not be removed, and they will tell you that up front if you ask,but as far as your cats are involved.. the rules say that they don't have to look, if the car is 25 years old or older. I've been told this. And 1974 was the last corvette with true factory duels.

Well, thanks guys. However Ben: THe car alrady passed visual inspection. My dad said there is a dude who will pass any car on the emissions test for $100. So I'm cool there. Also, forget cats, I hate em. As for the exhaust system the only place I could find it was Mid America. 603-850 mid america $269.99

I think I should just get the Dynomax super turbo muffler kit: summit: WLK-17482 and then go to a muffler shop by my dads work and have them build the exaust and weld it.
