I've been looking at some headers on ebay, and saw some older (18years), still in the box and never used BlackJack headers that said they were aluminum coated.
Is there any benifit to aluminum coated headers? Are ceramic coated better?
Thanks,
Glenn

I would think ceramic coated is better. With aluminum coated, I can just see your car dripping aluminum after the engine is hot while sitting at a stop light.
Ceramic coated is well proven for headers. Aluminum coated is fine for stock exhaust systems behind cast iron manifolds. I just don't believe the coating will hold up on headers themselves.

I also saw that listing. I've had that exact header set on my 79 for 20 years now (paid $105 in 84). Admit I don't drive the car much but will say they still look brand new, not a bit of rust. The aluminum coating is a coarse feel like sandpaper. A step up from painted but not quite ceramic. Not quite ceramic cost, either. And they won't melt. I'd grab them if the price is right. Considered going after them myself but the urge to keep my 78 SA 100% stock won out! Mike
What exactly is the ceramic coating? Was watching "Rides" on TLC tonite and they were putting a ceramic coated exhaust system on a Rod they were building. Went on to say that the ceramic coating is an aerospace designed product consisting of aluminum suspended in resin. Runs cooler and very durable. Mike
