Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.

I took my car in to get an exhaust leak fixed. They were going to do a simple cut and paste, but when they cut the piece off from the heat riser where the leak was, they found this
They said the pipe had an inner and outer piece and it looked like the two had separated and the inner piece had almost completely blocked the exhaust.
Given this and the fact that we couldn't be sure from looking if the other pipes were the same way, they are going to cut away everything from the heat risers to the mufflers and replace it all.
I'm hoping for a major boost in HP when all is said and done!
But I'm curious if anyone has ever run across anything like this
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

The picture really doesn't do it justice. I would say the pipe was at least 60% blocked

The pic ain't very good, is it? Hard to see it, but it does look collapsed right at the end there. Do you know if those are the original, factory pipes, or have they been replaced somewhere down the line?
The L82 engine should have had the 2 1/2" manifolds, AND 2 1/2" pipes all the way out. The pic looks like you have the 2 1/2" manifold, with a neck-down(on the pipe) to 2" about 8" from the manifold, which is the way the L48 was....strange.
I have actually seen exhaust pipes separate and collapse like that...usually and indication of a couple of issues, one being late(retarded) ign timing, and Chinese pipes...
Can't say I've ever seen it on factory stuff, tho, but it's totally possible.

I've never seen 21/2" sb chevy exh. manifolds, but I have seen 2" sb manifolds with necked down 21/2 head pipes, thats factory for my Lt-1 and replacement for my LT-1 that I got from Corvette Central.
and my exh manifolds are numbers matching 72 LT-1 without A.I.R.anips 2009-06-18 22:49:14
