Guys, a brand-new, shiny SUNOCO station just opened nearby. Since it's on the eastern fringes of the Everglades, there is an av gas pump fullfilling the needs of the airboating community. There is another pump that reads, Race Fuel 100 octane. Didn't check prices.
My question is: My 72 has a mild cam and no emission devices or any kind of electronic engine controls, could I try a tankfull of either without doing more harm than good. If there are timing or carburetion issues I might not do it, then, since everything's running pretty good.
What do you all think.

P.S. For you local guys, It's on U.S. 27 and Sheridan St.

you really wont get much benefit without retuning your engine to take advantage of it.
it might make you run hot.

Agreeded. Most engines can't use that high of an octane. It could acutally run worse. You can try it but you probably won't like it. It won't hurt anything.
I read up on that Sunoco GT 100. The company claims it's suitable for "muscle cars, classics and hi performance street engines". It's unleaded....I'll be the guinea pig then report the results.

I've mixed a few gallons of the GT 100 octane in with a tank full of premium fuel. I bumped the timing up a little and had no problems with the engine "dieseling" when I shut it off. It would "diesel" before with my timing bumped up. We are paying $4.49/gal. for the Sunoco 100 octane. (To pricey for me.) I now buy my 100 octane fuel from the local airport for $3.30/gal.

this is exactly how i recommend using it...
Keep in mind. Dieseling is caused by (among other things) enough heat remaining in the cylinder when the car is shut off. It lights the fuel without spark. High octane fuel burns colder and slower the lower octane. It produces more power due to the fact it produces more BTU due to longer burn time. But the temp is lower. That's why highter octane does not diesel. Lower temp. But more BTU so more power, depending on engine design.
Increased timing also creates higher temp, so the fuel offsets this, and all is well.
IF the car runs better, use if. If not, don't spend the extra money. Depends on your engine.
