Vette(s): Picked it up and it running good now. Just need to do a few more things and she will be 100 percent.
Got my car back from being worked on. I had the rear spring replaced, differential cover replaced, differential cross member replaced and replaced the gas line. The car has had a little spudder when taking off but I just figure that it is the carberator that needs to be rebuilt. Now when I am going about 55 mph and mash on the gas, it feels like to car wants to die. I let up off the gas and it takes a few moments for it to repsond again but I have to press on the gas very slowly before it responds. The car idles good and when I gun it whiile it is in park, it seems to be responding good and the secondaries do kick in. It is when you put a load behind the engine when it does this. The car worked good when I took it into the shop. I was thinking that fuel pump might have got some dirt in it from the gas old gas line or maybe the float in the carberator could be stuck.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Plus, where is the build sheet for the car located. It was not on top of the gas tank when they dropped it. They did say there was a shield above the gas tank and it could possibly be there.

Sounds like the engine does not have sufficient fuel pressure.  I would replace the fuel filter and make sure the gas lines are not pinched anywhere.

The most well known location for the build sheet is on top of the gas tank, but it's been known to be found in other locations as well...such as inside the dash somewhere. Maybe that shield might be a place for it, but I haven't heard of it. It's just as likely it's gone from age or maybe never was left inside the car at all.

something similar happened to me.  the car would idle and have great idle response in the driveway but when i put it in gear and put a load on the motor,  it would want to die.  turns out, i didn't have a full 12 volts going to my HEI distributor.  i was told to run a hot wire directly from my fuse panel (i used an empty accessory slot) to the distributor.  i haven't had a problem since then.

not really sure if that is the problem but it's something to consider.

Assuming the problem wasn't there before, it's a good bet there is some crap in the fuel line.

I had a similar problem long time ago after replacing one of the rubber lines on my '74. I wound up with a piece of crap in the needle/seat in the carb, and it started flooding out major big-time! We were leaving on an NCRS trip, and I wound up pulling the top off the carb in a parking lot of a Holiday Inn, and fixing it!

Check the rubber lines carefully, to make sure none of the are kinked, or got pinched in the reassembly. If all that looks well, then change the filter in the carb. It's also possible that the "sock" filter on the end of the fuel pick-up in the tank has gotten stopped up. It do sound like a restriction in the fuel supply.

I am wondering if the correct inside diameter of the new line is correct. Does anyone know what the inside diameter is supposed to be? Then I can ask them at the shop what diameter they used.

It's all about pressure and volume.....
I'd have the pressure tested....
Anyone know what type of pressyre a mechanical chev v8 requires?

The fuel pressure should be around 4 to 6 lbs.

Don't forget to check for damage to the line itself.  It could have been pinched when the other work was being done.

The supply line is 3/8", and the return line is 5/16".

Well I blew the lines out from front to back a few weeks ago. Then I tried to start it and the battery was dead. I didn't have a charger around so I bought one last week. I got the battery charged and started it up. I let it run for a good 45 minutes and it was idling good the whole time. Then I decided to take it up the road and back. To my surprise, it ran ran good. It did not fall on it's face like it used to. There must have been some rust or something blocking the gas on the intake side of the fuel line. 75BrownC32007-03-26 11:25:08
