Topic: Carb baseplate gasket
in Forum: C3 Fuel, Emission Control, and Exhaust Systems
My carb baseplate gasket was leaking the other day. The intake has a slot in the front of where the carb mounts, is this to warm up the carb? I've seen baseplate gaskets with a hole matching the slot, I tried one, didn't run too good. Mine was blocked off with a thin sheet metal plate. Do I need a thin gasket under the metal plate and another on top of it? Also, is this stock?
Thanks,
Matt
Matt,
Along with having my carb rebuilt, I picked up some new base gaskets from a guy who owns a carb shop not too far from me. He gave me a new thin metal base plate and a felt gasket.
He stated that the metal plate goes directly on the manifold. Then the felt gasket goes on top of the plate followed by the carb.
The metal base plate covers the slot in the intake manifold. The slot is for heat transfer. Strangely, the felt gasket he gave me also has this slot in it. He told me not to use the 4-hole only gasket that came with the rebuild kit. He said that the q-jet needs that gap, I didn't even ask why.
He stressed to me to make sure that the manifold & base plate are really clean.
Good luck,
Anthony
Thanks Anthony. I'll have to go pick up a gasket with the slot in it.
