Is it a Q-Jet ? I got to learrn lots about the Q-Jet
choke on my '81 as I returned it to fully operational
after previous owner had simply rendered it inoperative
presumably 'cos it went faulty. Let me know...
Yep, I'd go with the check the choke option first also.

Just rebuilt mine and they are really not that difficult... a couple tricks as far as assembly. Comes apart in 3 sections... I think Ken has a post on here with details of a rebuild... Mine was running fine but I wanted to clean it up and decided to do the rebuild too... looks and runs fine now...... I didn't have to mess withthe choke so that was not an issue for me... and if you follow Ken's tips to the letter... should not be a problem.. I did forget one thing tho... the black cover that goes over the float and getting the top gasket down over the primary pump... also make sure the primary pump is seated all the way.. easy things to look over... i made mistake of getting in a hurry...
Greeting from sunny Florida. Our weather has been C3 friendly but I am having some carb problems. I went to the Ecklers reunion which was a 3 hour drive from the house. When I would punch it to get on the interstate it would choke up, i'd finally work it's self out but it's not right. Around town it's running too rich, there's smell of gas in the exhaust all the time. Any suggestions? I know enough about carb's to be dangerious and I do know they can be touchy. Any tricks I can try prior to taking it into the shop?
Just my 2 cents... Is it carb or is it possible ignition?... I had a plug wire loose one time and it had the smell of unburned gas too and idled pretty smooth but just not much on top end.. ...
