Ok on my 70 Conv it seems when I drive the car for awhile and I come to a stop light the car will die. I had to wait under the shade till the car cooled off then it would start. While I set there the engine would turn over and I did smell gas It seem like it was flooded? The carb is a edelbrock with a holly manifold. When I got the car I put a high octane fuel additive into the tank. Whats wroung with it?

Sounds like you might have some form of vapor lock or possible low fuel pressure..did you change the fuel filter??make sure you don't have any fuel leaks either..at the tank or at the pump--hoses..might get air in the line or a fire..I guess if that is all ok is to check the carb after it dies--pull off the air filter and hit the accelerator and see if the pumps are working--if so you may have a weak coil that doesn't like getting hot..had a couple of those that glowed and shot sparks out the sides..

Are you talking about the ignition coil? Would the gas expand in the carb and push the float up?  Why would air in the lines not effect the car in the begging? It seems from visaul the fuel pump is new and the carb is new as well the fuel filter.  Would something happen with the fuel tank after it heated up?

I think Rich is suggesting that, as the car warms up, someplace in the fuel line from the tank to the pump might leak enough to suck air and starve the engine.  Since you smell gas, I suspect his other idea about electrical failure.  A plug wire, coil, or condenser could break down in the heat, then work again when it cools off.  If you have an electronic ignition conversion, that might also be failing.

I had the same problem with mine and the cause was too much fuel pressure. The Edlebrocks don't like much more than 5.5 to 6.0 lbs. I went to the trouble of putting in a good pressure regulator along with a good fuel line and the problem was fixed for about two weeks. Then I found I didn't have enough fuel pressure....the pump just took a poop. I went ahead and put a new AC/Delco pump in and it has worked great ever since....I don't even need the regulator with the new line and pump.
