Can somebody post a link on this topic.I suck at doing a search.Or if you have done this tell me how it went.The good and the bad,and was it worth it.I've got a guy in town that his only business is C3's has been since 1970.No C4's-C'2s....just C3's and I stopped buy to see about getting this done and to my surprise he had never heard of such a thing.He would like to read some of your stories and so would I.Thanks

zgator, Ive not had it done but I know a couple guys here have but cant remember who they are at the moment. The 82 pump produces less fuel pressure than the 85 pump. If your 82 pump is not working at peak efficiency, it can starve the throttle bodies where the 85 pump will provide more fuel pressure to them. The guys here live and breathe crossfire injection, they could give you the info you need I think.
For some reason I've done something bad because I CAN"T get in there.I've tried for a couple of years.If I remember right they have to many hurddles and hoops to jump through.I could be wrong.
It's not the pressure that's a problem it's the flow or volume. The throttle bodies on the '82 have thier own pressure regulator so no matter what pressure the pump puts out the T.B. only gets (I think) around 9-12 psi.

When the fuel pumps get old sometimes they can't give you the volume you need at higher rpm's, the 85 pump will cure this. Actually a new '82 pump will also but down the road you may have the same problem again.
I changed mine and it did help. It's not hard to do, just have to be careful removing and reinstalling the sending unit/fuel pump assembly.
Go to Crossfire Injection Vault web site, they have all kinds of good stuff on the CrossFire set up. They even have instructions on doing this with pictures and all.

The '82 system runs at 12psi, and that's about all the stock '82 pump will provide. The '85 system is designed for about 45psi. As far as I know, the pump is a direct swap.
A bit of trivia on Corvette pumps...the ZR1 has two fuel pumps, both the same part number and all, but they list them at over $200...each...
The Suburban uses the exact same pump...same part number, everything....you can buy that one for about $75...whazzup wid dat?

it's called owning a corvette. most people will accept whatever they
are told the price is and don't realize that there are some parts that
are interchangable with different makes. they are all in the gm family.
on common items such as a pump it would be smart to check it out.

It's known as the "Corvette Tax". This is a topic on the ZR-1NetRegistry tech tips.
Several years ago I picked up a 'Corvette Parts Interchange Manual: 1968-1982'. It's amazing what can be substituted across the "General's" line-up.
