Hello, Probably gonna ask a lot of questions...Bought My first rag top, and it is a "bumper car", CONVINCED the wife of the investment potential! I have a "dual snorkel" air cleaner...is this correct for the year? I have seen a lot of pics of engines with air cleaners with NO snorkle....element visable ALL the way around. THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!

Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.
hello and wlcome. although there are people with more accurate info, i have the 350/370 LT-1 and i believe stock air cleaner was just the round non snorkle  type chrome one asbout 10 inches in dia and about 4 or 5 inches tall, if you would like more accurate info let me know and i will waddle out to garage and get the books out. hope this helps. larry

Vette(s): 1971 convertible,375 HP 350ci,Muncie 4-speed,Edelbrock aluminum heads and RPM air-gap manifold,HEI distrubiter - old school mechanical tach drive. LOUD side exhaust!
So which assembly is better to have? I know the dual snorkel is best if you are going for originality. But what about best performance? Does the "open air filter assembly flow more air, or is the difference not worth worrying about? jgoglick2007-05-28 09:29:25

thanks joel i knew some one would be correct and  i was pretty sure it wasn't going to be me, i figure it was a easy one so i would try to jump it, that is interesting to know that the LT1 was a little different beast.

Don't really believe there is all that much difference in the final performance from one to the other, IMO.
The snorkel type does shield the incoming air from engine heat a little better than the full open type, but I have to assume the open element set-up is capable of drawing more cfm total. How's that for a scientific eksplunashun?    


Larry, your answer was correct. The LT1s, like yours, did have the open element air cleaners.

Vette(s): 1972 Steel Cities Gray T Top. Original Owner, Original Paint and Interior. The running gear has been rebuilt. only 250,000 miles on the clock..
I have the dual snorkel type on my Vette. Have tried the open element type like Larry has on his LT1 Vette.  With my engine I could not notice a difference, 'cept on WOT. Then you can really hear the Q-Jet secondaries open up. The Holley sounds just a throaty also. Thumbs%20Up
