I recently answered a question about setting timing. The specs were correct. But it was later pointed out to me that some 82s said to disconnect a tan wire/black tracer instead of disconnecting the 4 wire connector near the distributor. My initial thought was mid year model change. Some cars do disconnect the tan wire.
I had done a quick check on ALLDATA to find the spec and procedure. ALLDATA was indeed wrong. I just didn't stop to think about it.

If you disconnect the 4 wire on some carburator cars the car will stall. Then you must use the tan/black wire. This or one other procedure is also true of all GM fuel injected distributor ignition cars. All of the 82s Vettes (not all Chevys) were crossfire injection, so fuel injection. ALLDATA did not update the procedure for the 82 Vette. You disconnect the 4 wire connector on all of the 81s.

So here is the correct update. I should have thought about it a bit. I know better. Thanks to a good observation from Sarge81.

ALLDATA and Mitchels On-Demand are professional shop manuals, only on CD-Rom instead of books, and now on line with a subscription. We are subscribed here at the college, and I can access it from any computer with internet. Current on line info only goes back to 82. They are not as complete as specfic mfg shop manuals, but I can find most of what I need. Not all, but most.
It's very handy, but sometimes leaves me flat.

It is for mechanical work only. It does not include internal transmissions. But you can get the transmission information as well for more money. There are separate manuals for body work.
