Any body got an idea of how to repair the fuel inlet threads(where the filter goes) on a q jet. I have smelled gas since I owned the car, now I know why. I really don't want to replace the carb yet if I don't have to.

Thanks

Mike

If the threads are so bad that the filter won't screw in then it will need to be fixed with a thread chaser. Then you can try some thread sealant and hope it works. You will need to make sure the sealant is compatible with gas.

In extream cases, there is, or was, an insert repair kit available from NAPA. It fit in where the filter retainer was, and a hole was drilled in the housing, and a set screw installed to hold it in place. It sealed with o-rings where the threads used to be.

I have not seen one in a long time. I don't know if they are still available.
