I bought the Hooker comp headers....they are sweet...but the only problem i'm having is how to run my exhaust. there is a hole in the tranny crossmember, but i dunno if i would want to run an exhaust through there...i want to do something custom, but once i crawled under the car and looked, i couldn't see how i could run the exhaust except the stock location.
has anyone done anything with their exhaust other than the sidepipes?...the reason i want to do a custom exhaust is because of the stroker motor thats going in is going to have to breathe fairly well, and i'm gonna have to run 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust....would i be able to run 2 pipes side by side down the passenger side and then split them off once i get past the tranny crossmember?...help!..

YOU MIGHT RUN INTO CLEARANCE PROBLEMS HAVING BIG EXHAUST THAT CLOSE TO THE GROUND. I HAVE DUAL EXHAUST RUNNING THROUGH THE TRANNY CROSSMEMBER AND IT WORKS FINE. IT IS ALSO A PERFECT WAY TO ROUTE YOUR EXHAUST FOR AN H-PIPE FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE AND SOUND.

so you ran the pipes through the holes in the tranny crossmember?...what size pipe did you use?....i would like to have the exhaust come just a little past the drivers seat and put a turndown on it...is this what you did?

so i can run 2 1/2 inch without a problem?...now i gotta find a way to mount mufflers past that...there is a space that mufflers will fit just past the seats, but i'd have to fab up some hangers...does anyone else have the hooker comp or super comp headers?...how are they?

2 1/2" pipes will be no problem passing through that cross member. All big blocks and the off road RPO exhaust option ran that size. But ground clearance with mufflers mounted anywhere else than either side of the spare tire tub (except side pipes) will be an issue for you, especially if you plan on lowering the stance of the car any.

I understand the ground clearance issue. Is there a company that makes an exhaust system that will bolt to these headers that is pre bent? I was thinking of having a local exhuast shop bend the pipes for me. There really good and not to bad priced, but if i'm running a stock location muffler/exhaust set up, it would probably be easier to buy a kit and bolt it, or weld it together

Vette(s): 69E Coupe Red/Black orig.# L-46 4-sp. Reworked with forged rods, 10:1 pistons, 3/4 cam, 2.02 fuelie heads, alum. intake, holley Q-Jet carb, roller tip rockers, alum water pump, alum radiator, Pertronix ignition, etc. New interior. A great driver.
Have you given any thought to using a chambered exhaust system? This would solve most of your concerns in that no mufflers are required,it intstalls in the stock location, it is available in 2.5 in. size, and it is offered in a header configuration. Check out Mid America Designs website for more information.

wow, that looks awesome..thanks...now the question is, does anyone have any experience in fabricating that chambered exhaust to fit the headers? According to the note, some fabricating is required, but all the piping is included...i think i may have found what i need...

Hi
I ran Hedman headers into a 2 1/2" system through the cross member. Muffler shop in town bent the connector pipe. Good clearence all around!
