hubby used one for a while, only problem waswe have speed bump in some roads.if he went over them at anything over tick over,it would jar the needles and bend them just enough to cause them to hang-up and flood like you would'nt believe

Back in the day, I built the Carter AFB/AVS carbs all the time, with great success. When Edelbrock took over manufacturing, the quality took a turn for the worst, imo
What problems do you have with it, or are you looking to swap to one?

I've had cars with the old Carter AFB and a car with the Edelbrock. I always thought they were all excellent carburetors. They're simple and hold their adjustments. I do believe a Q-Jet is a better carb for the street but you wouldn't be unhappy with the Edelbrock.
For a street car, my choice for carburetors in order of preference is:
1) Q-Jet
2) Edelbrock
3) Demon
4) Holley
I'm sure others may disagree, which is fine. We all have our own peferences and likes and dislikes.
But of course...I'm right!

I've had a Edelbrock Q-jet for over 3 years and am completly happy with it. After the car sets over night the engine has to turn over six or seven times befor it will start. Don't know if it is to carb or if this is just normal. Any way that's my 2 Cents.

Your engine turning over several times before starting is pretty much the way it is now for carbureted cars.
Since virtually all new cars now are fuel injected, gasoline is blended different for that and other reasons, such as EPA regulations. Gasoline today evaporates much faster and in a carbureted car, the fuel has to be pumped up to it before it can start since the fuel in the bowl has evaporated after sitting awhile.

I run an Edelbrock on mine. had to have it calibrated to my set up but once that was done it runs great. couple of pumps in the morning starts her right up. After that just turn of the key
A few years ago, I ran a Carter style Edelbrock carb on my '79 Chevy 4x4 Shortbox Pickup. The engine was a typical warmed over 350.
But being that the trucks supension and short wheelbase made for a very rough cement truck like ride. This would cause the floats to go out of whack real quick.
So the guy down at the local speed shop recommended putting an off road kit into the carb. It was made by Edelbrock specifically for their carb. It had some small springs in the kit, and those would cushion the the shock of the bumps preventing the floats from going out of adjustment. It worked like a charm.
Now as SilverStreak mentioned, he has the Q-jet style made by Edelbrock. Those are decent carbs for mild or stock engines. Anything high perf. forget about it. They have truck metering rods in them and will run to lean under full throttle conditions. BTW, Edelbrock got out of the Q-jet business awhile ago now. I can't remember who, but someone else purchased the rights to the Q-jet design.

I'm tellin' ya the TRUTH, your Q-Jet will handle the Ethenol in the gas better than the Edelbrock Carb. If you want to monkey with the Edelbrock, then go Edelbrock. If you don't want to monkey with it, go with the original Q-Jet. My 2 cents......

I swapped the L81 out of the car and cut loose the CCC. I could not use the existing Quadrajet and with no success after trying to get a Rochester swap out in, the parts guy and I concluded he could not get the right one in.
I then put the Edelbrock AVS and noticed it hesitates quite a bit off of a dead stop running normally, while turning the vehicle it also tries to kill.
Yesterday I took it out and in a U turn, it killed and I had a hell of a time getting it started and getting home.
I let the motor cool and pulled it and boy howdy was it ever flooded.
I think there are some obvious float issues and quite frankly am not too happy with it, but it wasn't cheap, so I was wondering was I crazy. I never had any problems in my QuadraJets in my Olds, but have had no luck finding replacements.
