To start with I posted this question in the wrong catagory, I though I switched to engines, but was in brakes. I have a Edelbrock intake and carb on my 79, and want to change to EFI. I would like to use the Holly stelth ram system. I want to stay away from TBI or port systems with a throttl body similar to TBI. Can anyone tell me if there is a clerance problem that they have ran into doing this. I don't want to have to buy an aftermarket hood. Thanks David.

Funny I am in the middle of doing the same research as you are. Yes, I think it will be too tall for your stock hood. I am going with this route for my intake:http://www.lt1intake.com/services.htm
The whole stealth ram kit can work except you swap this intake for the stealth ram and sell it on ebay or something. The lt1 intake will not restrict your upper rpm hp like a tuned port will and it has decent low end torque. here look at this also: http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/articles/hardcore/0803phr_beast/

I'm more than sure the Holley Stealth Ram MPFI won't fit under the stock hood. I was looking into the setup myself and based on the measurements it was going to be pretty tight with my L-88 hood. I really like the look of it though and hopefully if they get one that fits Fast Burn heads I'll change out the one I have for it as long as I can change manifolds without messing with the rest of the EFI stuff.

Two things about the stealth ram.
One. It won't fit under our stock hoods. We have installed these here at our engineering lab on TPI powered Camaros. It just barely clears. You can put them on the TPI power Firebirds, but you have to notch a support member on the under side of the hood to make it fit. I'm sure we have all seen other c3's with TPI engine swaps. The stealth ram measures 10-1/4" tall from the Bottom of the intake to the top of the plenum box. A TPI is roughly 8-1/2" tall. Possibly it might fit under an L-88 or Cowl hood. You do have a couple options. You could have a custom upper plenum box made that is not as tall and slighly narrower. This will allow you to mill the lower intake down to make it slightly shorter and the narrowed plenum would then slip down between the fuel rails. The Stealth ram plenum won't allow this.
Lastly. Holley has a new Stealth ram system out that works with the fast burn heads. The intake is also available seperately. We introduced it at this years SEMA show. Here are the part numbers

There is also an independent website dedicated to the stealthram intake that I just found out today. http://www.stealthramintake.com
FYI. WE are just now getting these onto the dyno, but if you ever wanted a roots style supercharger for the fastburn heads be on the look out for these. We introduced them at SEMA as well. Here are their part numbers
6542-1 Supercharger kit, Vortec version 6512-1 (142 Satin)
6543-1 Supercharger kit, Vortec version 6513-1 (142 Polished)
Hope this info helps.

Thanks After Shark. I remember months ago when we were talking about EFI that you mentioned they would soon be coming out with the the Stealth Ram for FastBurn heads. Since the manifold can be bought without purchasing the rest of the kit, in the future would it be a fairly "easy" task to just swap manifolds and leave the rest of the EFI stuff alone? Or would I have to do more like new fuel rails and such? I really like the look of the polished stealth ram.

Well, Actually if you run the stealth ram intake you will need the matching fuel rail kit which is also sold seperately.
Other then that the swap is fairly straight forward. Its the tuning that usually messes you up if you are not familiar with tuning EFI.
Remember that anytime you deal with electrical items, especially EFI, its important to have solid and reliable ground and power sources.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll need another throttle body as well. How much difference do you think the stealth ram would make compared to the standard MPFI kit?

In our dyno tests the Stealth Ram made anywhere from 5 to 10 more HP and equal more Torque over the single plane style MPI setup.

Great. Thanks for the info. Maybe after I get mine running and really get to know how to use the Holley Commander software I'll upgrade. The 5 to 10 hp increase doesn't quite warrant an immediate upgrade, but I really like how it looks because its very different than what you see under most hoods.
