I just had a very nice Allen's 2.5" dual system put on my 79 - L-82 last week. Has anyone figured how to get the exhaust pipes that bend in front of the spare tire, up a little higher ?
The only hangers are the custom piece that Allen's makes at the trans area, that clamps the dual pipes up, and the muffler hangers in the rear.
The system is solid, not loose and no rattles. There has to be a way to get these pipes up for more ground clearance. There is room and the mufflers could go up another 3" at their front side.
Any info would be help.

Same system, same year, L82 even. I have yet to get the system up but I'll be checking back here. I'll take a closer look when it's up on the lift to see if something can be "rigged".

I put a duel exhaust system on last spring on my 80. On the original exhaust system there was a bracket bolted to the frame with two body bolts, just where the pipes come out of the converter and split back into duel pipes. I jacked up the exhaust pipes one at a time used universal hanger brackets cut them off to the right length bolted every thing together. I used both of the holes and two brackets one for each pipe. Back at inlet side of the mufflers I did the same thing there happened to be holes in the frame that worked with 3/8" body bolts. You can try this to see if it works for you. I spent so much time under the car last spring I think I know every hole in the frame. This spring its back under with rear sway bar and new shocks. Then on to the front with new springs, shocks and sway bar. I am begining to wonder if the sky is actually made of pipes, springs, frame rails, and brackets.

Try this, it worked on my '68 and a couple of other cars; At the point the pipes bend towards the muffler and the muffler attaches, rotate the muffler down a few inches and tighten the clamp. This should have the muffler "dangling" about halfway between the floor and the hanger. Push the muffler up to the point where it will attach to the rear bracket. Just a bit of help from a floor jack might be needed if you are doing this alone. This should lift the whole assembly up tight to the rear crossmember and fairly close to the center of the spring. Again, I've done this on a couple of my cars and it doesn't put anything in a bind.

Try exactly as milkman says. As you can tell by our cars, great minds think alike.
