Tan 64 365 Hp Conv 4 sp
Red 72 4 sp Conv ..running a '68 327
Blue 76 Coupe L 48 4 sp
White 79 Coupe L 82 auto
Silver 98 Conv, 6 sp
35th Anniv '88 vette
I own 72 76 & 79 Corvettes.... Put chambered on the 72 & 79
year later I pulled it off of the 79 and for the hell of it put it on the 76...
That lasted a few months... Pulled it off the 76 and sold it to a club member...
the 72 is a Rag top...sounds just fine.. even with the top up (please do not tell anyone I actually ran the car with the top up as it would ruin my reutation big time)
On the Coupes it was just unbearable with the top on and insane to have on the car IF the windows were also up... Just 10 times too loud INSIDE the car...like being inside a drum...
I am completely deaf in one ear so if something is too loud for me its too loud.. Sold my 68 SS 396 Chevelle that I ran quite a bit with straight threu exhaust and the chevelle shook the ground with its 2 4 barrel carbs etc..
I could handle that car on the street windows up or down...a lot easier then I could handle either of the Vettes...
my 64 also a rag top also has chambered exhaust and is fine...
In short..Chambered Exhaust & Coupes just does NOT work...
I have headers, duals and stock style mufflers on my black79. Sounds great, not loud but you still know there's something under the hood, as does the guy next to ya at the stoplight! On my white79, I simply replaced the cat with a test pipe. Rest is all factory. Sounds almost as good as the black one. I don't like a LOT of noise, I like to let the Vette just stand out on its own. Not by how noisy it is.
I'm with Mike here. Same set up, makes it quite enough to carry a conversation / listen to the radio in the car.
But, still able to hear the headers and cam outside. I guess I'm old school but begininng ta jest act old...

I like Magnaflow performance exaust. Flow through, not chambered. Similar sound to flowmasters, but more performance potential. Of course, I don't care for listening to the radio much on short trips either.

I have these on my 75 coupe, Power Sticks:

I drive with the tops on, on two hour trips and I don't find them loud at all unless you are turning 4500 rpm or more. They have a very throaty sound but are not annoying inside the car.
