Vette(s): 1968 coupe bought in 1999, 2nd owner, 427 custom built, 4 speed (M20), 3:36 posi rear end, Recaro seats, Intro wheels, Nitto tires, Flowmasters, etc. Painted nite race metallic blue.
I have a custom exhaust system with Hedman headers, 2 1/2 inch pipes, an X pipe, and flowmasters in my 68 427 coupe. The sound is great all the time (deep rumble at idle) and gets lots of attention. I had side pipes in my 65 327 coupe, glass packs in my 63 fuelie, and I am happy with what I have now. Good luck in selecting what you want. Smile

I just put on DynaMax Super Turbo.  Nice strong growl, fairly quite in the car.

I believe the best quality pipes and mufflers come from Allen's Exhaust in Indiana 219-722-7272.  They make thier own mufflers, and will make them stock, or with one or two fewer baffles.

Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.
I put the chambered true dual exhaust system on my '79 thinking it would sound real cool. It did'nt!
My motor is stock and therefore, lower compression than the older Vettes. I thought mine sounded like a garbage truck when I was driving stop-n-go around town. The only time I liked the sound was when I was up to cruising speed on the highway.
I wound up putting the Turbo mufflers from Mid America on the back of the chambered system. It quieted down alot and added some much needed back pressure to the relatively low compression L-48 motor. I think it has a bit more power now when first getting on the gas with the addition of the mufflers. Plus, when I'm up to speed on the highway I can hear a nice hint of rumble that does'nt sound too bad.
I think the chambered exhausts sound alot better on a higher compression motor.

Good luck with what you decide on!

I have a stock L48 and the chambered exhaust sounds great. I guess it's all subjective.

I'm with KDaddy on this issue with  MY 79....  I also hated the sound...ended up sticking the original mufflers back on the rear end of the Chambered Exhaust...

THEN  a few weeks later I removed the entire exhaust on put in on my 76 ...sounded much much better ...so to finish the experiment I pulled it off the 76 and stuck it on the 72.... (Vert) which sounded even better.

Ended uip returning the 72 to running Flowmasters as originally on the car keeping the 76 with the chambered exhaust and sticking a pair of flowmasters on the 79.....

My 64 and My 76 are now running chambered exhaust....79 and 72 running
Flowmasters....eventually the 72 will get its own Cambered exhaust...
so 2 of my C3 "work" with chambered...BUT not my 79...

the 98 is running a complete SLP 5 kit...including the Exhaust...slightly more quiet than I would like ///   But not worth spending more money to
go with  either Borla or Corsa

Hows that for confusing the issue...

Bob G.

Moral of the story.... EACH CAR (and the style of the car...Coupe vs Vert) make a huge difference ...

I used to have ANSA exhaust on my 77 and loved the sound. Took off the cat and exhaust and put on ceramic headers and side pipes. I love the look, hate the sound, guess I am getting older but I like a throaty sound
but not exessively loud. Next year I may go back to true duals.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
I have Hooker Flowmaster headers, true 2 1/2 pipes, and Hooker AeroChamber mufflers.

It's easy to talk in the car, but it's not quiet.  There are three distinct tones,  one at idle and low rpm light throttle.   The second is at mid throttle and mid engine speeds.  The third is at any wide open or high rpm.  Each is similar but unique.  All three sound good.  The wide open can make converstion difficult, but you really are not talking at that time.
My sister was behind me when I opened it up once,  it startled her.  I like it.

I put DynaMax on mine.  loud enough that my neighbor comments on it (why is he talking--he's got Borla on his '02 C5), but quiet enough to not be a  problem at cruising speed.
