Hello Corvette fans!  I am about to install a new exhaust system.  On one hand there is a 2 1/2 system with magnaflow mufflers and on the other is a 2 1/2 chambered system.  I do not have any experience with the chambered system.  I am looking for a good performance sound, but still want to be able to talk to my wife going down the road.  What do you all think?

I'm interested in this topic also... as it's hard to tell what you will get until you put it on... than it may be too late. I'm hoping to hear a few at Pigeon Forge... get a live demo there I'm sure..

I HAVE THE CHAMBERED EXHAUST FROM MID AMERICA. SOUNDS GREAT, BUT IS REALLY LOUD. SETS OFF ALARMS AS YOU DRIVE BY. I GOT 2ND PLACE IN A LOUDEST EXHAUST CONTEST...LOST TO AN UNCORKED 502....MY CAR READ AT 119 DB!!!! ITS LOUD INSIDE THE CAR TOO. I DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO TURN ON THE RADIO....BUT THAT SWEET SOUND  IS SOOOO COOL!  YOUR WIFE MAY NOT LIKE IT...MINE DOESN'T. LONG TRIPS ON THE FREEWAY GET A BIT RAZZLING.........THERE ARE ALSO OTHER CHAMBERED SYSTEMS OUT THERE BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW LOUD THEY ARE.....THE CHOICE IS YOURS..............

Mine is currently under installation.  I might have it today or tomorrow.  I'll let you know.

I have 2 1/2 Hedman headers and 2 1/2 Allan's chambered exhaust (same guy who provides it to the big 3 I think).

My current setup (before chambered) is magnaflow which had a pretty good sound too.  I was setting off old sensitive alarm systems at about 4-5 feet distance.  Now I think I will set them off at around 10-12 (if not more...).  It's going to be a blast at the mall parking lot!

I'll ask the guy for a dB reading when I pick it up (if he has one).  Else, I'll try to stop by Autozone to see if they have one.

hoho guys , talking to your wifes is NOT a reference for choosing mufflers !  i think the best exhaust is the one you can choose !!! if and when you want to hear here.....  that's why i'm installing a double system : 21/2" ( LT1 and BB ) standard exhaust with operated from in the car valves to switch to the side pipes....YEAH.

so when conversation gets into my wallet  , i switch to racing mode...YIPI

Personal preference. The sound and performance are great but, The droan of the engine at highway speeds can get a little annoying. I put spiral technologies baffles in my sidepipes. They are quiet at idle but throaty on acceleration. Cruising you do not even hear them. Supposed to be good for performance ? Don't know don't care.
I get too much attention without racing down the street, do not want the police hearing me before they see me.

good luck

Vette(s): I own a 1977 Red Corvette- a slightly modified Shark. She has nearly 70K miles and is a work in progress.

New here but I thought I would kick in my $0.02 cents worth. I have 2 1/2" SS with headers down to a couple 40 Series Flowmasters. I like the sound but the cans don't fit very well with the spare tire cover. I'm thinking about replacing them or taking off the spare cover and make them fit better. I've heard a lot about Borla. What are the thoughts on that?

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

Capt Bill has a dual chambered exhaust on his car.  There are 4 chamber indents in the pipe under car, and three indents where the mufflers used to be.  It really sounds great, but you can talk in the car.  No problem.  When you open it up, it's loud, but not as loud as other single chamber systems I have heard.

I put 2 1/2 in duals on mine.  I'm using the Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers.  I think they are in fact just a bit louder than the dual chamber Capt Bill has.  I like the sound, but any louder would be too much.  But they are not any louder, and I like them.  You can talk when cruising in the car, but open it up and it roars.  But I can actually see through the mufflers before I put them on the car.  They are basicly a chambered exhaust in a muffler.

It's a difficult call unless you can hear some other cars.  Guess you just have to cruise around and visit all of us.  Could be much worse duty.
