Topic: Failing accelerator pump?
in Forum: C3 Fuel, Emission Control, and Exhaust Systems
Need an opinion here. I took apart my Edelbrock 1904 Q-jet carb to do another primary jet/metering rod change for tuning purposes. The accelerator pump was still compressed into the well it sit's in as I removed the upper gasket. Then popped out after a minute. It feels like it's binding a little as you move it up and down. But it seemed fine after reassembly. The car was a real b!tch to get started, and didn't want to start readily after it stalled a few times. Pumping the heck out of the gas was the only it would re-fire. The throttle responce was bad when cold, but got better once the car was hot. Thanks in advance!

If it was stuck down in the well, it is probably swollen to the point of no return. Replace it, and be sure there is a spring under it upon reassembly, as well as the usual one on the shaft of the 'pump'.
