Has anyone installed or considered installing fiberglass side exhaust covers. I need to replace my exhaust and like many of you, I am considering side exhaust. The original 1969-Style are not in the budget, and I don't want the Hooker side pipes. I like the idea of being able to paint them to match the car, but I don't know how durable they are.

Hi Steve, I have the fiberglass covers over my stock style side exhaust. I purchased the whole package several years ago,I think around 900.00, it included shorty stly headers, stainless steel side exhaust and the fiberglass covers. I painted mine the metalic silver and black, trying to duplicate the originals as close as possible. They still look pretty good, and I think this is the 5th season I haave run them. I do have a pair of the original aluminum cromed covers, but they are in poor shape, still always checking to see if someone, somehow can refurbish them for less than the 2000 bucks for new chrome covers. I have gotten many compliments on my covers, and if you take your time painting and clear coating them I'm sure you also will be very happy with then. Also a bonus with them, you can go on a long ride, open the door, put your hand or leg against then and guess what? NO SNAKE BITE
Hope that helps.

Thanks Dave, I saw a set on a red '69. They were painted to match the car and looked very good. The paint was new, so I did not know how they would hold up. I appreciate your info and maybe one day my vette will look as nice as yours.
