Thanks for the info. I may be trying to sell the kit I just got in about a year then. Would I be able to just keep all the electronics of the 950 Commander and get the upper and lower intake and throttle body for the Stealth Ram?? |biggrin| The polished stealth ram looks really sweet. I put an L88 hood on my Vette. Holley said the kit was 10.25 inches and doing a quick measurement I was able to put an 11" object from where the manifold is to be measured and it just cleared.

Well....sorta, kinda maybe |headscratch|. The Stealth Ram uses a Billet iAC housing that comes with the kit. It mounts to the Throttle body. That piece is not being sold seperately. The electronics won't care what it is hooked too and all the sensors are the same. To save yourself some trouble the way to buy it is in the form of a PowerPack. its basically the kit without the electronics and wiring harnesses. This way you get everything new and everything you need then you just need to plug in the Commander wiring harness and fire it up. May need to do some minor tuning as the Stealth Ram makes more power then the single plan units.

I have to agree its a real head turner when it comes to styling. Glad to hear it will fit under the hood.

If you want an easy EFI upgrade this intake can be used on any TPI EFI engien out of a Camaro/Firebird. You just need to get the fuel rail kit, and manifold center bolt adapters. If you want to stick with the polished look then the purchase of a Billet or polished TPi throttle body from BBK, Holley or another company would be required.

Lots of good info here in this thread. I was considering fuel injection too but the cost was a major factor in deciding against it, at least at this point in time. |sad|

It is expensive. I'm a carburetor guy by nature. Not much on the whole electronic thing. I can do it,I just don't like it. I even hate wiring and programming my home entertainment system.

My '95 Tahoe is listed with Fuel Injection, but has what looks like a carburetor on it. When I took off the air filter housing, it looks like a carburetor that was retrofitted at the factory with injectors in each venturi. What do you call this setup? Is it any good? (I am assuming not, as it gets 13 MPG on a 350, while later model Tahoes get much better milage.) If any good, is this possibly a much cheaper option for those wanting to go to fuel injection with as few changes and costs as possible?

Chesh,

The setup on your Tahoe is called "Throttle Body Injection" Basically, it is what it sounds like. On top of your manifold, where the carb. once was, is a throttle body, kind of a hollowed-out carb. There are two injectors in the setup that feeds fuel into the intake manifold. The stock chevy setup is pretty ghetto, but there are companies, like Holley, that make awesome throttle body injection systems.

As far as injection goes, you can't beat port injection.

Hope this helps. I'm a carburetor guy myself, but I'm interested in what the markets are doing with aftermarket injection these days. Maybe when my engine comes along, I'll see what Aftershark has for me.

Later model engines are better then the old 350's retro fitted with a TBI system. Thats the main difference in fuel mileage and performance. Not to point fingers, but GM basically created a Band Aid to give an old engine EFI, up until a couple years later then the went to an Multi point fuel injection system (injector per Cylinder). Just be glad they didn't decide to stick with the MPFI systems used on the blazers. What were they thinking there? |eek|

Anyway, you can put a different throttle body and keep the factory electronics on the truck to make it run better and give it more performance. I think the only company that has one may be Turbo City. We should have a performance unit our sometiime at the beginning of 05.

You can replace the whole system, but be prepared to get in over your head. You will need a complete aftermarket system, removing all of the factory electronics, and then purchasing a seperate transmission controller. The transmission is electronically controlled and this controller will replace the factory ECU's control of the transmission telling it where and when to shift. Lots of work. Really not worth it.

Your best bet to improve performance and fuel mileage is to work with a chip or a reprogrammer. There are several companies out there that make products that are easy to use. I would contact Hypertech, SuperChips, Diablo, or TTS Power systems. Most of them can reprogram the ECU, offer a handheld reprogrammer or sell a chip plug in upgrade. I think you would be happy with any of those products.

I don't like doing anything to my 78 vet that I may not be able to diagnois and repair, but I purchased a 1991 comaro RS resently for the overdrive tranny to go in the vet. The camaro runs great and gets great mpg. How much trouble would it be to replace my carb engine with the injected engine from the camaro? I believe the fuel, tank on the camaro has an electric fuel pump in the tank. Would there be a lot of wiring needed if I used the whole system from the camaro? |wavey| |idea|

Thats a TPI engine, and I believe there is a tech piece about this retro fit on corvettefaq.com.

The only issue is going to be getting the TPI to fit under the hood, but the easiest way to do the swap is to take over everything and it should be fairly simple to do. I would just go to an inline style EFI fuel pump to supply the fuel.

The other option and more expensive is to just swap the engine with no electronics and install a aftermarket ECU retro fit kit for the TPI. I know we make one that will plug into all the TPI sensors. The advantange is it gives you 100% control over turning the engine. So now cam swaps, ignition upgrades, stroking the engine and all that is possible because you can now tune the fuel map and timing to what the engine needs.
