I have a leaking fuel line on my '72 Small Block Coupe. My question is: Can I remove and plug the return line from the fuel pump and continue to drive the car? I recently replaced the fuel pump that was on the car when I bought it which did not have a return line (now I know why). Also, How difficult is it replace both fuel lines. Are their fastners to hold the lines in place and hoe accessible are they? I haven't had time to jack up the car and look. Cry

The hardest part changing out the lines will be at the "kick up" on the frame in front of the rear wheel. From there to the tank is pretty much a pain. See if your failure point is along the frame under the pass. compartment. You may be able to splice in a repair section there. There are clips that hold the line to the frame, you can get new ones from the Doc.
On mine, the lines were all one piece. What I've seen for replacements are sectioned I suppose for shipping purposes.

Thanks for the reply,

The leak is just behind the front wheel or at least that is where it is dripping and only does so while the engine is running (not too oftrn since I discovered the leak!!)
Do you have any idea what would happen if I disconnected the rubber hose from the return line and plugged it until I can replace the line? Could I run the car or would the fuel pump not function properly?

That's a Ken question. Mine has just one line, but it's a big block car. They didn't have the return. I'd suggest repairing the line if it's that close to the front.

check the emissions charcoal canister, sometimes if that gets clogged it will work as a syphon and appear to be a leak, should be a round cannister in the area of the front wheel well, good luck, rd

Thanks again for the info. I will check closer and locate the source of the leak and go from there.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!Smile
