Topic: Fuel problem

No sooner do I replace my leaking fuel pump, another problems comes up. I was recently returning from a local cruise night doing around 65, when I needed to kit it up a bit, the car acted as if I was running out of gas. I backed off, and it ran fine, I hit it again, and had the same out of gas symptom (popping from carb). I got off the highway, stopped at the light, and when I proceded my car stalled out. 
I checked for gas, was 3/4 full , leaks, loose plug wire etc. Nothing 
I waited 10 min and it started. I got home and there she sits. The car has been running great, and the fuel pump is the only newest part recently installed (50 miles ago). Any idea's from you guys will be greatly appreciated. BTW, It was 99 degrees out, but my engine never went over 200.

Also, you might need a new fuel filter, in the carb, as sometimes, changing the pump will allow some poop to get in the fuel lines.
Is the replacement pump exactly the same as the old one? It may not have the correct pressure.

If it's actually running out of fuel(or seems like it is),the only other thing I can think of would be the "sock"(filter) on the end of the sending unit/pickup tube, inside the tank.
Something else to consider.....if the vent line(vapor separator) is stopped up, it could be pulling a vaccuum on the tank, and that could cause it to not get enough fuel to the carb. It's a little far fetched, but it does happen.

at the flattened portion of the bend, in between pulse's the line opens again, if you carefully put your hand on the rubber fuel line when the engine is running you can really feel the line pulsate, also maybe when you changed the fuel filter there might have been a small amount of dirt you missed in where the filter goes and it might have gotten hung in the needle valve assy, if thats the case and if its running good now maybe the dirt blew through.
Great advice guys, I do have a Q-Jet and had problems with the floats before. I've also noticed a problem that started a few weeks ago that may also be the cause. My fuel guage will go well past the full mark, and continue to do so (at 3 o'clock) until it gets close to half full. Then it will show the correct reading. This is making me agree with Joel that my pick-up tube may be the culpert. I'll be working on it the week end (If I get the chance) and let you guys know the results.
