I am new to the C3 Forum. I have a 1982 CE with cross fire injection. Yesterday after taking a drive I got home and after sitting for an hour, I started it up. It stalled after 1 minute, and now will just barely run for about five secounds. I changed the fuel filter today, and it still acts the same. I can hear the electric fuel pump run for a few secounds when I turn the key. The check engine light is not on. Does anyone have any idea what to do next.

thanks

Got fuel?! It may seen dumb, but just because the fuel gauge shows, doesn't mean it has fuel in the tank. The later C3s have a bladder inside the tank that can deform and hold the float up enough to register on the gauge, but the tank is actually empty. I suggest putting 5 gal. in the tank and try that first. |hammer| |hammer| |thumb| |wavey|

If you fueled the car up just before it happened, you may have bought a load of bad gas. A member of my local Vette club broke a '67 Vette with a ZZ4 crate engine because of bad fuel. He had two pistons break from detonation damage.

What may be more likely is the fuel filter sock on the pickup inside the tank may be clogged...not allowing any fuel to pass through.

Thanks

It looks like you can remove the pump and strainer from the gas filler door. I may check tomorrow if any of the parts stores has them in stock. I may replace the pump also, since it has to come out. I have never replaced an electric fuel pump.

I put in 91 octane gas. I did drive for 15-20 miles with no problem. Maybe it was dirty, and settled when the car was parked. At least I was home in the garage when it happened.

Your cars are look great
Thanks again

Hi,

It was the fuel strainer in the gas tank. It was falling apart, and must of plugged up the electric fuel pump. I replaced both, and the car runs fine. 22 years in the gas tank took its course on the strainer and pump.

Thanks for your help.
