I recently converted my 350 to a 383 stroker on my 79 C3. I have a 600 cfm Edelbrock carburetor with an external electric fuel pump set for 6 psi. With the new aluminum heads it's putting out about 415 hp.

Question: I do not have a fuel return line from carburetor hooked up and was wondering if I should? After running / driving the car for about 15 minutes when I shut it off it takes several cranks to get it started again. Pressure gage still reads the 6 psi after I shut it off for quit a while.

Any thoughts?

If it still holds pressure after sitting for a while, then the fuel is not causing the starting issue. I would suspect a float issue if you were dropping fuel pressure after a period of time, but since you are not, I would be looking into an ignition issue, or possibly it is running a lil too rich and the plugs might be fouling.

Is the carb HOT to the touch when you turn the engine off?  I had a warm start issue on "The Toy" where the carb was getting heat soaked by the intake and fuel was getting cooked in the carb.  Solved it by putting a Mr. Gasket sandwich gasket set (layers of aluminum and cork)  underneath the carb to insulate it from the intake.  After doing that the carb just got warm to the touch, not HOT, and the warm starting issue was history.  Just a thought.

Thanks, I currently have a heat shielding carb spacer to reduce heat transfer. Good thought.
