Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary model. Original L82 engine, 700r4 trans, edelbrock intake, thorly headers, rack&pinion steering, mono rear and front spring, MSD 6A box

When I fill my tank up the gauge is steady but, after I burn some gas it jumps around quite a bit.  Does it sound like time to replace the sending unit? How difficult is it to replace.

Scroll down to "Bouncing Fuel Gauge" started by white78 in this section.

'78-'82 gauges are the same. Common problem with these years. If the ground and wiring are good, then it's most likely the gauge itself. Which is much easier and cheaper to replace.

Thanks, I'll check the grounding.  Hope that the problem if not I'll check the gauge.

Yea ! try everything else first 'cause the fuel tank has to come out to access the sending unit. Funny ! It looks like GM meant for it to come out of the fuel fill door.Boy, was I disappointed, BIG BUMMER.
