Here is my situation. Fuel tank seemed to leak if I put 1/2 a tank in. I assumed that the top half of the tank had a hole in it. I have had this problem before on other cars. Since my Vette basicly sat outside from '95 til I bought it this past fall, I thought moisture had gotten to it. Upon removal of the tank, I found that it is in fine shape, and the leak is either from the hoses at the tank of the tank sender gasket. Since the tank is out I thought that I would replace the gasket and hoses and take care of both possibilities.
Now the problem is that niether Zip nor Corvette America sell this gasket by itself. C/A says they don't have a supplier for it, not even the company that makes the replacement sender they carry (which comes with the gasket for $250.00).
I was wondering if anyone here has replaced just the tank sender gasket in thier 75-77, and if so where you got the gasket from.

Does it look like something that you could cut yourself if you can't find one?
Have you tried looking for an OE gasket? Occasionally you'll get lucky and some dealer will still have one.
Good luck!

I probably could, but I really didn't want to pull it apart until after I found out about a new gasket. The more I look at the (dirt)pattern on top of the tank, I would bet that the gasket doesn't leak. I am going to replace the rubber hoses and re-install the tank today.
Then I'll throw some fuel in it, fire it up and see what happens.
Thanks for responding.

Last year, I was leaking fuel all over the place. It turned out that my rubber hoses were cracked. After I replaced them, I pulled open the gas tank to clean it out I resealed mine with RTV (that blue stuff). No problems since.
Good Luck,
Dave

Thanks for the info Dave, I replaced the lines and put the tank back in. I don't think the gasket was bad on mine either, so I threw 5 gallons in the tank and fired it up. No leaks from the lines. I need to clean up the floors(surface rust), toss in new carpet, and replace the weather stripping before I start driving it agian and find out about the gasket(good or bad)
Once again, thanks Jim, Rick, and Dave for the input.

Best way to check for a leak is to apply pressure to the tank and use some soapy wanter on the outside to look for bubbles. Kind of like looking for a leak on a tire.
Easiest way is to apply air pressure through the vent tube on the tank. You will only need about 20 psi and standard hose clamps should keep the air hose applied to the vent line. you may also need to apply some duct tape to the filler next to get a really snug and leak free fit at the gas cap since our caps are not like the ones on a EFI car. Once it has some air in it, just swab away.
If there is a hole. Fill the tank with water and weld the hole close or mark the location and take it to a shop that does that type of repair.
Also, if the gasket does need replaced and you can't find it seperate, just go to a parts store and buy the gasket material and use the old one as a pattern on the new material and cut out a new one.
Good luck

Thanks for the input Matthew, once I get back on the road, if it still leaks, I'll pull the tank back down and try airing it up.

For those who haven't seen one of those gaskets, it's not flat, it's a big rubber o-ring. Hard to duplicate with gasket material. Maybe some sheet rubber that is gasoline resistant. Joe
