Can you replace the rubber hoses from the gas tank to the metal leads from the charcoal filtor without dropping the tank?

Yes, if you drain the tank, drop the spare, the hard ones are the ones attached to the seperator on the left upper side of the tank, you will need a mirror, and a little patience, and a little "feel"to get the job done, 3/8's out of the tank to the seperator,5/16's out seperator to hard line to canister, might as well change all the rubber lines while your at it. Be carefull with the seperator, its a plastic check valve, as old as it is if you try to pull the old rubber line off you might break it, try to cut the old lines off, many times they are cracked to start with, they are unavailable, if broken you will have to go to a vette wreaking yard to find one. anips 38614.6756712963

Agreed!
The hose from the tank to the separator is going to be the big pita. The best bet is to unbolt the separator from the tank, and then use a razor blade to slice the hose length-wise to remove it from the separator. The other hoses are much easier to work with, but are still fairly hard to get to, unless you are a contortionist!!
Some '74s were recalled due to a defective solder joint on the line from the tank to the separater, and so, will have worm-type clamps(usually) on the fuel lines(and will NOT have the build sheet left on the tank!
) Otherwise, you'll find all of the clamps are the spring-type.
btw........would love to see a pic of your '74!!
