I have a question regarding my 77 tank,but first I want to pass on my findings to those who might do this in the future.My only concern was can I remove the tank without removing the hoses on top of tank.I took the advise of another poster and lowered the tank just a few inches so I could see through the filler door.All hoses are visible as well as the two electric connections through the door.However,because the fuel lines were 30 years old,they were like stone and not removable.So,with a freinds help we lowered the tank to discover plenty of room to work/cut the lines.The tank was empty and very light.Anyone can do this job. Now my question,this tank has a bladder.must it be used on this car or can it go away? I see no re-pop bladders in any catalogues and the re-pop tanks do not come with them.

Mike is the liner bad?? Unless your really need to replace it, just check the liner, AKA bladder out frist if its not damaged consider keeping it and don't remove it. I removed my tank on my 75 last year and it was fine.  With no problems. Its up to you but If it isn't broken don't fix it. Just my thoughts.

When I posted my question yesterday I had no Idea what shape the bladder was in.I was more curious why re-pops don't have a bladder. Last night I opened up the top of the tank and removed the gas guage float,etc.All parts are like the day it was assembled! The bladder was the same,absolutley like new.FWIW,the bladder is also the seal between the tank and underside of the removable door.

Mike I guess I'm just out of sink with 77's you mentioned the underside of the removal door ? I had my tank out of the 75 and did not see such a thing. This is new news to me anyway. Hey you may have see other replys I made to other members about removing their tanks. If you didn't what I told them to do is while the tank is out. Run some compressed air through the fuel lines in the back to the fuel pump up front. (Don't forget to remove the fuel lines at the pump.) Watch and see what comes ou. Thanks again.

Hey Guy,The "door" I mentioned is the large pc. on top of the tank that holds filler naeck and sending unit ass. It is held in place with about 10 small bolts.After removing it the bladder in the tank is also the seal under this "door". I would have thought GM would put a paper or cork gasket there,but they saved a few cents made the bladder a bit bigger and it became the "door" gasket. After 30 years I was surprised that the bladder and sending unit looked so new. Your idea of blowing out all the fuel lines is a good one that I will do. Thanks,Mikeee
