It looks like my Gas Tank Separator has bit the dust. Fuel leaking out when the tank is full. Leaks down onto the muffler so no driving until it is replaced. Redwingvette2007-04-22 08:40:03

Oh that not good, I think everyone has seen the video on the news of the guy fueling his Ferrari with fuel leaking onto his muffler Confused  Was not a good scene, can you say "Italian BBQ"

At least it's not hard to replace! I have an extra one I took off another 74, in case I ever need one. Are you sure it's not just the hose(s) leaking?

Yes, I replaced them when I had the body off a couple of year ago. It also filled the carbon can up and I had fuel pouring out of it once before. Not a good thing at all. It sure would be a lot easier if I had this thing on a lift instead of laying on my old worn out back.LOL

Well I got the old one off and it has a pin hole leak in the side right at the bottom where it is welded together. New one has been shipped so I hope to have it back on by Friday.

Is this something you have to drop the fuel tank to replace? I want to replace mine and I don't know if there is an "easy" way to do it.

Drop the exhuast and you can reach up to it.

So I get the new one today and guess what, it leaks too. I am going to fix it myself. The bottom is glued on and it seems that the glue did not seal in one small spot.

Them things weren't "welded" too well to start with! I've seen quite a few of these things over the years, and every one of them looks like some first grade science project! Very sloppy.
When I was doing the resto on the '74 chassis. I couldn't believe how bad these things are made. Even made a note of it in my NCRS Judging Manual. Then, I got an "extra" off of another '74 I had for a while...it looked exactly the same! Dang pencil pushers!

Where did your new one come from, Brian, if you don't mind saying? (P/M if ya want.)

Ecklers, you think they would leak check them before sending them out. I know production parts have to be but it seems replacement parts no one cares. I am just glad I check it before I installed it. Redwingvette2007-05-01 07:39:34
