Vette(s): 1975 Coupe NOM 350: Edelbrock 64cc heads, QJet clone, Performer manifold & cam, gear drive and water pump; MSD ProBillet dist and 6A box, Comp rollers, Hedman headers into true duals, Magnaflow cans,TH400 w/shift kit, TT2's, 3.70RA, hi-rise hood
On this site and elsewhere, people "kick and groan" about hard=starting Q-Jets and clones. It just doesn't have to be that way; all it takes is keeping the choke linkage free and clean.
My very modified L-48 with an Edelbock clone had been cold iron, stored outside in a Noah cover, since very early December. Sprayed the carb down with SeaFoam "Deep Creep" at layup time, ran some SeaFoam through the carb to clean its insides, and stabilized the fuel with SeaFoam as well. Disconnected battery, of course. Yesterday was Resurrection Day; connected the battery, sprayed down the carb with Justice Bros. Carb Cleaner, set the choke with one press of the foot-feed, turned the key and <<<POWER UP>>>. Started on the first shot, no sweat.
If the choke assemblies get gummy ... and today's reformulated fuels must have molasses in them ... that Rochester will f**k up you up. But kept clean and free, which is easy to do, they start good and start easy.
At least mine does ...

Vette(s): 1973 Orange Metallic Coupe (orig owner), L82, 4 spd (WR), PS, (A/C & PW (I installed from wrecked 73)), leather, AM/FM Stereo, ran with '65 FI unit earlier & will again some day.
2023 Accelerate Yellow HTC Stingray
Another common cause of Qjet cold start problems is when the choke doesn't completely close. It is imperative that it close tightly when accelerator is pressed to the floor. Learned this during a winter in Minneapolis.

The Q-Jet is a very good street carb. But like anything else it needs to be serviced. I have a Q-Jet and am going to keep it. I will be rebuilding it before very long, but Hey, it's 29 years old.
