Hello forum members! Well, I now have both my DynoMax headers installed on my '79 L48. However, I'm a little baffled as to how to install the exhaust system.

The header collectors point down a little bit, perhaps about 10º or so. So, when I bolt the "head pipes" to the collectors, they naturally want to point down to the ground. I can push and twist the pipes to the point where they're about 1" or so from my new BTO crossmember, and perhaps 3-4" below the rear cross member just in front of the diff.

My kit also includes a couple of extra pieces I'm not real sure what to do with. They seem to fit inside the head pipes and allow for some "pivot". However, I would have to go buy some LONG bolts to secure all these pieces together, which tells me that's not the right solution.

Can anyone explain how the head pipes are supposed to connect to the collectors? I took a few pictures I can provide if my long-winded explanation doesn't make much sense!

hello "76x"! Actually, I took the car to a cooperative muffler shop.

First, I took the two long extension pipes into the shop and they cut them about 3/4 of the way through, just behind where the bolt to the collectors. Then I installed them back on the car as best I could. Finally, I had the car towed back to the muffler shop where they corrected some of the hangers I had installed, and re-welded the pipes where they were cut.

I want the system to be mostly "bolt in" so I can remove it when I get ready to replace my suspension, remove the gas tank, or something.

Three or four muffler shops I talked to originally all told me I had to stay with the factory 2-into 1-into 2 set up. The shop I ended up working with was a little more willing to "fracture" the laws. |wink|
