I agree with Ken.. why spend money to go backwards..
that guy did extensive modification on his shorties to make them worth a $hit. slap your exhaust manifolds on for now.. save money on exhaust mods.. later.. finish the job right.

I have the full length Hedman Ceramic Coated Headers on my smallblock. They fit great, do not discolor and are a great performance upgrade from the stock manifolds for more free breathing, bigger than stock valved cylinder heads and free flowing exhaust.
What you should also consider in additon to all of the other important advice you've received already, is that you will actually sacrifice some flow as you are stepping down from 4 X 1 5/8" tubes to 1 pipe on each side probably over 1' in length earlier with the shorty headers than if you go with conventional length headers.
Also another very good point raised here was that you will not be able to re-use your intermediate pipes if you ever decide to switch to conventional headers.....
My vote, in agreement with Ken, is that you hang on with the manifolds until you can scrape up enough sheckles and go with the full length ceramic coated Hedmans.
BTW, if you get friendly enough with a garage that orders their parts through a large wholesaler, you can save a lot if they can order parts for you!! I went through such a connection and saved nearly half the retail price in Jegs and Summit. Unfortunately do not have this connection anymore
Either way, save, do it right the first time and you'll be happier in the long run.

I don't think 'Santa' would like the price tag on those baby's.....
My situation is that if I sell these shorty's I'll use the money on something else for the engine instead of the headers. I mean on summit the ready to run distrib with the blaster ss coil kit is $299.98 I really need that, adn I just spent $204.50 on rockers. SO I'm afraid this money will go to the distrib over the headers. But what is so bad aobut shorty's? Just that I have less free room for the exhaust? I can always have new headpipes made in the long run.... No biggie it would be less than the price of me upgrading to the hedmans now. THe whole exhaust system is going to be like $300

this is the reason I took my saturday job at the speedshop.. they order my non-specialty items for me at cost.. unfortunately so many of the things I buy are "corvette only" parts..
