Hi guys,

I am getting real close to firing up the engine for the 1st time since the winter rebuild and upgrades.  One problem remains:

The new Holley fuel pump has pipe threaded holes on the side for the input and output lines.  So, I took two 90 degree elbow fittings with pipe threads, wrapped the threads in Teflon tape and screwed them in until they were snug and pointed upward.  (Upward direction is needed for both lines.)  However, they aren't as tight as they should be in the upright position.  It seems to me that with pipe threads, since they are tapered, that you have to screw them in until they are very tight and then just deal with whichever direction the fitting is pointing in, which would not be a problem if the fitting was straight.

Any suggestions?  I have thought about repacing the teflon tape with some kind of fuel resistant sealer like maybe Indian Head, so that I could get them as snug as possible in the upright position, then the sealer would harden to ensure they don't leak and stay tight.

Am I on the right track, or is there something I am missing alltogether on how to easily connect this fuel pump up?

Thanks!

You could see where they wind up without the tape. Most new pipe thread fittings really don't need any type of sealant. Maybe you could try a couple of different fittings, and see if they tighten to the spot you need.

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.

Why not try a swivel fitting of some kind?  I'd swear I've seen something like that in the Summit catalog.  That way it shouldn't matter how tight it needs to be screwed on.

Just a guess.  There are much more knowledgeable people on here who will probably give you better advice.

I'm just trying to match Joel's number of knowledgeable and insightful posts, with a few ignorant and thoroughly random ones of my own.

Maybe try using AN fittings. You can get any degree elbow you may need. Is your gas line going into a flared fitting? If so you should be able to get an elbow with pipe threads on one end a flare on the other. Just a thought. Terry

I also thought those connections were flared or reversed flare but in any case if this is best for you, the pink teflon tape is fuel resistant and several extra winds will certainly seal it whenever you decide to stop. Good Luck.
