Hi guys,
Looks like I'm going to order Hooker headers and sidepipes.  My plans are to get them in the ceramic finish, then add perforated stainless steel heat shields produced by a guy I found on the web.  At first I was thinking I would send the heat shields to Jet-Hot and have them coated to exactly match the side pipes.  Then I thought it might look very cool if I could paint the covers gloss black, so they would match the car.  Problem is, since these will be steel mounted directly to the pipes, they will get pretty hot themselves. (I know, sounds contradictory for a heat shield, but I figure the intent is probably to just bring the tempurature down from a third degree burn to a first degree ;-)   Anyway, I have very seen any very high temperature paint in gloss colors and also available in spray bombs (12-16 ounce cans).  Is anyone aware of such a paint being available?  I just don't think engine paint would withstand much more than the approx. 230 degree max that an engine should put out...  Any ideas?

Sorry, you guys have been a wealth of info and I have not been nice enought to return the favor and post pics of lasts winter's engine build-up.  I'll try to do that this weekend!

I've seen hi-temp engine paint in aerosol cans that say they protect to something like 1250-1500 degrees. I don't know what colors it's available in but I would think gloss black would be available.

Check with retailers like Pep Boys, Auto Zone or Advance Auto and see what they carry. You can check online with Eastwood. If anyone has what your looking for they should have it.

Ya pays yer money and takes yer chances!

I just bought some semi-gloss, 500 degree engine paint from NAPA. I would think they would carry the gloss also.

Yep, AutoZone has it, but only up to about 1500 deg F.    The headers will get hotter than that.

Thanks guys.  I was of the impression that a very high temp paint could not be made in a gloss color, since all VHT paints I've seen were flat or semi-gloss.  I'll have to check out AutoZone. (I was just going to consider it for heat shields on side pipes, so I don't think it would get above 1500 degrees...
