Is a Holly 650 spread bore too much carb for a stock 350/270? That's what's on my engine now and needs to be replaced. If it is, what would I have to do to make it work properly? The only one I can find is at Pace for $309. Anyone know where I could get one cheaper? Maybe even rebuilt? Mine is not rebuildable. (650cfm, spread bore, vac sec, and elec choke) Thanks......

Anything, but Stock and more mods to come!
SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
All Holleys are completely rebuildable. You would have to break something completely off the casting for it to rendered useless.
The 650 holley is actually smaller then the 750 qjet that came on these cars. The qjet was also a vacuum secondary. What makes a spread bore driveable are the smaller front primary throttle bores with the larger secondary bores. Under normal driving you are only using the primary bores. During acceleration is when the secondaries will open up to allow more air into the engine.
If you want to rebuild the Holley from the ground up the master rebuild kit is 37-933 know as the trick kit. this kit will acturally contain more parts then you will ever need, because it has extra parts for addtional calibration.
If all you need is a basic rebuild you will need kit part number 37-1537.
However if you want to buy a remaned 0-80555, holley sells a reman part number. the part number is 65-80555. It has the dichromate finish not the polished finish. The polished finish part number is 65-80555S
You can also call holley and send it in for the R&R service where Holley Mfg will rebuild it for you.
Hope this info helps.

Thanks for the info. The reason I say it's not rebuildable is because it's been gone thru at least a couple of times. I pulled it off the other day because the top was loose. When I turned it over, there were about three kinds and sizes of screws, all were loose and most stripped out. It doesn't atomize the fuel but just dribbles it in.I just want to dump it! I wouldn't mind just putting an original rebuilt Q-Jet on it just to run for awhile. I plan on building another engine for it soon and hate to spend a lot on a carb that won't be used long. Any Ideas?

OMG, you say the top was loose? That means you have one of the old 4011 models. Most likely P/N 0-84021. Those have not been made for almost 8 years now. I had to go back to my 1997 catalog just to find a listing for them.
FYI. They can still be rebuilt. You just need to heli coil the stripped out threads. Probably still much cheaper yet then buying a replacement. However the problem is most of those parts are obsolete and would be next to impossible to find unless you send the carb here to Holley to have it rebuilt.
Your best option is to probably look on Ebay with buyer beware. Especially when it comes to carbs. You never know what has been done to them or if they have been modified. The other option is to look at the remaned Holley 0-80555 which I listed the part numbers above. You can also get remaned q-jet carbs as well.
Holley remans qjets also. The part number is 64-7786
Some of the members have good luck with the qjet. I took mine off because I could never get it too run like I wanted.

I had the Q-Jet on my '78 L82 rebuilt by a shop that knows them, and after re-jetting it to match the cam installed in the car, it runs great. I couldn't ask for more out of it.
As Ken has said before...Q-Jets are excellent carbs, the trick is to have them set up by someone who understands them.
A side note to comments above regarding remanufactured carburetors...I've never seen one yet from an assembly line rebuilder worth a damn. I would only have my own rebuilt by someone I knew would do it right...otherwise I'd buy a new one.

sorry matt.. but I have to agree with bruce..
I've had terrible luck with the Holley reman Q-Jets...
better live right next door to autozone.. your going to have to swap out 4 of them to find one that works

I wouldn't spend money on a reman either, but Holley does a pretty good job on theirs. Although I have had a few problems with a couple different ones as well. Thats over a 5 yr period.
But if you have the money get a new one. Doesn't offend me one way or the other. Thats why we are here.

When I rebuilt the motor in mine, I took off the stock intake and qjet and put a performer intake and a Holley 670 Street Avenger carb on my engine. It now has around 3-4k miles on it. The car started right up with this carb. I just adjusted the fast idle speed down to something that I thought was reasonable and it has been very reliable. I have played with the jetting to see if I can tweek it, but not really necessary. My SA carb was a good investment IMO.

Yeah, I plan on getting another intake and carb when I get another engine built, probably a 383 stroker, but until then I'm just trying to keep it drivable. This Holly I have now is just not cuttin' it
