I think that after getting burned a couple times you learn not to do it anymore.
I think it only takes once.
A good thick pair of jeans helps. Nothing like the smell of burning flesh after a good drive.
Actually, I never owned side pipes, but worked on a lot of cars with them. It only took one time for me. If you have short legs it a bit more problem. Who's riding with you? The pipes are worth the caution.

Yup ONCE will do it. But remember the passengers also, everyone getting in and out of the other side will also have to be reminded every time. I did not have that style on any of mine, but I have driven enough vetts with Hooker side exhausts to know better. When I purchased side exhaust for mine I didn't even consider them, I have felt the pain!
I have the factory style, but with the fiberglass covers, I also still have the orignal covers but need to be recromed, maaybe someday.

Good point - the passengers! I always forget to tell them until it's too late!
Particularly watch out for women in nylons - it will melt 'em right to their legs and leave a nice little "shark bite mark".

Just know that when folks say "burned" we are talking about third degree burns-not just a little sunburn.
I still have the scar-so does the owner's 13 year old daughter!!
Consider this carefully!!!

I would also recommend the factory style. Mine are skinned out with the fiberglass covers.
The Hooker pipes look slick, no doubt about it. But a third degree burn can definitely ruin an otherwise perfect evening.
One man's opinion. Take it for whatever it's worth.

I've had my hookers for 10 years and the only person to get their leg burned was my brother-in-law and he did it twice. I wear jeans anytime I've been driving and I try to remind every rider to step wide getting out. I love the pipes though.
