Is it easy to install a new exhaust system on a C3? Between the ends of the exhaust manifolds to the mufflers mainly.

Any welding required? Or just remove old pipes and secure new ones with clamps? Mayb just a weekend project? Need any exaust pipe sealant on the ends of pipes?

Vette(s): I have a 1977 corvette that is basically stock except the engine that I rebuilt myself and the dual exhaust that I installed. It is black with red int. L-48 automatic.
It isn't that bad of a job. I installed a new dual exhaust on my '77 last winter in about 45 min. I bought it through Corvette Central as a kit, and it was complete except for any hangers and doughnut gaskgets. I was working with a new rebuild, so my manifolds had new studs on them, which made it a little easier. Good luck with it.

Thanks. Did you have any trouble taking the old exhaust pipes apart? I'm thinking that I might need a rubber mallet to pound on some of the joints? Did you use any exhaust pipe sealant or is it just a slip off the old pipe and slip on the new type of job?

No I didn't need to seperate anything. I was replacing the entire exhaust, so I used a reciprocating saw to cut the old one out except for the hangers, which I just removed the clamps. I hope this helps.

Aha. Well, my manifolds and mufflers are fine. So I just need to replace the pipes between them. Is that possible without removing the manifolds and mufflers?
If so, how do I remove them?

It will be easier to get the pipes off if you drop the mufflers first. Leave the middle pipes bolted up at the manifolds until you get the rear pipes off. And you WILL experience a fair amount of cussing and pounding! |laugh|

Then when putting on the new pipe work back from the manifolds hanging the mufflers last. Have fun...!!!
