1981, 350 Stock engine. Are any of you running the Hypertech Power Chip, Street Runner version, with your still factory setup CCC and ECM? I have one, ran it for a while but did not notice that much difference but now have new engine in so wondering if worth the effort to swap out chips again and see what she'll do now?
Any of you have good or bad words on these chips? Also does the check engine light system still operate correctly with power chip in?

I never thought those things were worth the money. It's not like the computers of today where you can totally change your engine's setting, and make huge gains.

On the '81, the Hypertech proms only control the fuel mixture at idle, and the timing at wide open throttle...that's it. You might actually be able to notice a difference(from stock) when you nail it, or you might see a slight improvement in 60ft times at the drags. For a street engine, about the only thing that will be different is the idle, and possibly emissions testing. Imho, not really worth the $$$, unless you just happen to need a new prom.
I have a Hypertech prom in my '85, but it's fuel infected, and pretty much all computer controlled. It does make a bigger difference for the later cars....it just doesn't really do anything on the '81.
Oh..yes, the check engine light will still function the same with the prom...that doesn't change.
