Can someone give me their expertise on dual snorkels. I am doing a body off on a 72 coupe and rebuilding as a custom. The aircleaner that came with the car when I bought it is the standard black dual snorkel, however, it has a black painted lid. I have read that all 70-72 dual snorkels had chrome lids - can someone comment. Also I have read that the part number was not stamped in but was on a white sticker on the body of the aircleaner. This appears to be an OEM assembly and when I bead blasted it, I found the remainder of what appears to have been a sticker on the underside of the base. the reason I ask is that I have restored this assembly and want to put it on Ebay but don't want to advertise it as OEM if it is in fact aftermarket. Any input from the experts out there would be greatly appreciated. I am selling various parts off this car on ebay so watch the C3 auctions site. Thanks in advance for your help.......Keith Keith72 38429.6156597222

I'm looking in the Fact Book of the 1968-1972 Stingray, and to say the least, it's not clear on the subject. The photos are black and white and it's difficult to say if the air cleaner lid is chromed or black. Some photos look as if the lid could be chromed or high gloss black.
I know chrome lids are available through the aftermarket. My '78 L82 with a dual snorkel had a black lid that I replaced with a chrome aftermarket one.
Wish the information I have was more clear.

Thanks, Gunslinger. I got my info from Corvette Restoration Guide by Richard Prince wherein he states that all covers were chrome, however, from my experience in rebuilding old Harleys, I have found a lot of these guys aren't always correct. Likewise, the pictures are not plenty and again are all black and white so it is hard to say. I can't believe that they wouldn't come out with a standard black one. Thanks for your input from a fellow (rtd) Canadian L.E.O.
Keith, I can postiviely tell you that the 72 cleaner lid is
chrome. I have a couple of lids and bases and they came off the
original 72 base cars that I once had.
What parts do you have that you are getting rid of. Are you going to give us a listing before going to ebay. Just wondering.

Thanks for the info. So then do you think that the lid is aftermarket or both lid and base, or what? I have restored them both and they are in very nice condition but don't know how much demand there would be for them if they are not original. I have already sold a couple of the things on ebay, thinking that anyone registered on this site would go directly to ebay through here. Everything has low opening bids so I can clean up my shop and not have a bunch of stuff laying around, but there is not much that I am selling. I have sold the original park lamp grilles, one of which was broken, the lenses, one oem exhaust extension and I have the original seat belt set presently posted along with the tags. Some stuff is most likely better off in the burning barrel but if there is anything I think will benefit a fellow enthusiast, then I will post it as I come across it. Thanks for the help, let me know about the lid and base. Snowing in AB, how about ON?
