Vette(s): 1970 454 4 speed A/C power everything else
I have a 70 454 (390hp), 4 speed car, a/c power brakes etc.
The motor hasnt been run since 86 so I am going to pull it, clean it and replace parts etc. I want to also put in a better cam and intake. Someone suggested one of the better original intakes and keep the Q-jet. I want this to fit under the stock hood, so I called Edelbrock and they said the Torker II will fit.
What other original intake is better than the one I have now and what are the chances of finding it?
Thanks

The Torker isn't the best intake for a street car. Its single-plane design makes for good top end power but will suffer in the low end and in idle quality. With both a/c and power brakes you would be better off with an intake and cam combination that will make good engine vacuum so it will idle well with the a/c running.
I think the best solution is to maintain the stock intake and carb and make sure the cam you buy will match their characteristics. If you're determined to replace the intake, get a good low profile dual plane like an Edelbrock Performer. They usually fit a stock hood. The Weiand Stealth manifold would be a good choice but it's made for a square bore carb, not a spread-bore like the Q-jet. An adapter would make it too high most likely.

Thanks..................I did speak with Edelbrock tech line and they said the Performer wont fit, only the Torker II.
I agree it is a single plane and comes in around 2500-6500 rpm. I also spoke with comp cams and they suggested the 11-242-3 same as XE-268H.........515/.520 224/230 @ .050 its done around 5800 rpm.
If the Performer does fit please let me know, I would much rather use a dual plane, or I guess I'm stuck with a stock manifold.
Is the LS6 manifold better, is it easy to find? Are you laughing now?

I'm surprised a Performer won't fit, as they're pretty much stock height, but maybe not when it comes to the big blocks, which are pretty height critical as is for Corvettes. I still would think a Torker wouldn't be a good choice for the street and how your engine is set up.
Why are you determined to replace the stock intake? They're pretty good as they are. You can always have it bead blasted and powder coated or plated if appearance is what you're looking for.
As far as an LS6 manifold, I really don't know the specs or what its power band is. It may or may not be helpful in achieving what you want. I would think an LS6 intake would be pretty pricey.

I'm not really determined to replace it, I'm thinking it would be best for the cam. If the stock is decent that's fine with me. Not trying to build a drag car, just a boost in power.
I will probably just do a cam, some roller rockers and the chambered exhaust for now. I know headers would help, but right now I'm saving a little money for the clutch, radiator and other incidentals.

I would go with headers over changing the intake. Less restrictive exhaust will help the cam and give better results. Then I might would look further into an intake swap. I ran a stock 325 hp 396 intake on a 454 with great results. It was heavy but flowed very well with a little gasket matching with the heads.
Good luck,

professional products puts out a good intake too. price point is favorable. i`m good for 6500 with my set up. Jegs has them listed. i think summit does too. good luck!
The best place I have found to find original parts is "Tracy Performance Corvette" they have a good web site that you can look for original parts by number. I'm not smart enough to post a link sorry.
