Vette(s): 1972 base engine coupe. RPOs AV3, C60, M40, N37, N40, PO2, U79
There are lead additives, like "Real Lead" that use a very small load of TEL (just enough, barely, to do the job and cause no harm)and the lead substitutes which I think use a manganese package (don't take my word on the chemistry on this one). I can't give a testimonial on either since I never let the lead issue bother me enough to want to address this. I assume they are adequate for their purpose.

The requirement for lead in older engines is greatly exagerated.
There is a little more wear without the lead, but very little.
Use pump gas, and don't worry about it.
Worry about octane first like said above, detonation WILL destroy your engine...
