Topic: Leaky Carb gasket

I am guessing you have a Qjet, since you don't state it. If my old and feeble mind can remember, it seems that some Qjets suffered from a porosity problem right in the center between the primarys and secondaries. I haven't had a Qjet on anything for years, but that does seem to come to mind and they did cause your symptom.

Yes it is a Q-jet..... That Su.Ks! is there any way to stop it from leaking????
Q jets can be rebuilt, I'm pretty sure Ken posted an article on here a while back on the "How To's"
When a Q-jet is working properly, it's a great carb. I'm assuming you'd like to keep your car stock.

[/QUOTE]Sure there is.........drain the fuel out, and don't drive it!

If it's only leaking from the base gasket, just replace it(the gasket). Over time, the gasket absorbs fuel, and eventually it will seep out. Quadrapukes are not known for the quality of the baseplate, and they do warp fairly easily. I'd say replace the base gasket, and use one with the plastic "inserts" around the bolt holes. This way, it won't warp the baseplate any more than it already is.

There are soft plugs on the bottom of the bowl area that have a strong tendency to leak after some time. The bottom plate of the carb can be removed and these plugs sealed with a decent epoxy such as JB Weld.
Look at VetteProjects.com under Ken's projects, and you will find the Q-Jet rebuild article I made, complete with pictures. One of them show you the soft plugs.
