Our car club attended a cruise-in about 30 miles away this weekend and when we got there, the guy behind me said I was losing gas everytime I left a red light or turned a corner.
When I looked at the back of the car, there was little specs of gas all over both back bumpers. I had just filled the tank before we left. In the 60 mile round trip, I either burned or lost a half tank of gas. The tank is new. How can I find where I'm losing the gas?

Sounds like either the fuel filler neck is leaking, or one of the return lines on the top/sides of the tank are leaking. If you fill the car full, have someone shake it side-to-side vigorously and look to see if any fuel comes out of the fittings on the top/sides of the tank, or from the filler neck area.

Will a cigarette lighter work just as well?

Mine leaked around the filler neck, gasket had deteriorated. It had strong gas smell when riding with full tank. May be fitting or hose if gasket was changed with new tank.
Check this too.....my 72 always smelled like gas after installed a new tank, lines etc.
Duhhhh......the gas cap was leaking......the paper seal was missing from under the cap. The 72 has a sealed cap. other years are different.
