I am going to replace the sidepipes on my car with factory type sidepipes.Need an opinon; any pro and con's between metal covers and fiberglass ones.(besides cost) The hooker header sidepipes are showing their age(rust
),besides I'm more of an old school guy.

A lot less leg burns with the glass covers, although I have to say, there are a lot of really nice options out there in chrome...

Thanks for the compliment Scott ,I'm leaning toward the metal covers.I get a funny feeling when I invension them painted.

I perfer the origional 69 covers to the fiberglas ones that can be painted. The chromed 69 covers give it that classic Corvette look. The draw back is they are VERY expensive. My covers have been on since the mid 1970s and are pitted. They need to be replaced, however??????

I also meant to say that the original 69 covers are insulated and do not burn your legs however the door sills heat up, but it is not unbearable. Sorry for the oversight.

Well work made my desision for me.I am going to run my exhust out the back.The guy at the muffer shop gave me a good price for headers and pipes out the back.It will cost me less than running factory type side pipes.($1500vs $350 obo just for covers).He doing headers and pipes for $550.At least I'll be getting those rusty pipes off the car.

I don't know a lot about sidepipes or their covers but if it were me, I would go with whatever is the most original looking. I don't like it when someone puts newer or more modern looking parts on their Vettes, just my .02. Good luck

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
Why not go with chambered exhaust. You can get that kit for less than $500 and you have the same sound as the original side pipes without those ugly mufflers exposed out back.
