There have been plenty of gas tank questions as of late, but here are some more...

Late last year, I noticed a fuel leak after I filled the tank.  It was definitely under the car, but from where, I'm not sure.  I assumed the tank and I assumed the top.  However, the few times I put gas in it after that, even though I didn't fill up, I still got some leakage.

So, after a winter season that has seemed to fly by, I'm getting ready to put in an order from MAM for a tank (and a few other items I'm needing).  My question is, what else should I order along with the tank?  Does my description give anyone a clue as to what the problem might be if it is not the tank?

If I'm going to pay for shipping for the tank, I figure I might as well get whatever else i will need on the same order, but I haven't heard anyone talk about the other things that should be replaced when a tank is removed and replaced.

Thoughts anyone?

I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!

Before you assume that it's the tank itself, check to make sure that the short pieces of rubber fuel line that connect hard lines to the tank haven't gone bad. If you're sure its the talk, you'll definitely need a sending unit gasket, a replacement screen/sock for the sending unit, a new rubber spill boot if yours is dry rotted or cracked and a pair if gas tank cushions.

Good luck and be careful!! No smoking!!

You might want to check the prices here before you place your order with MAM. It just might be the same product.

Good luck and let us know what you find under there.

I agree with Paul...check first to see where the leak is. I have a new tank in the '74 that I put in aboot 5 years ago, but...I have developed a leak now when full.
Mine is leaking from the driver side, so I know it's either the hoses for the vapor separator, or the separator itself. I shall fix that before Hot Springs, I think...

Most tanks will come with the gasket for the filler, and the o-ring seal for the sender unit.
The only other thing you might need is the insulator strips, which are basically just a couple of strips of tar paper, You can get that at Home Depot, or...at a construction site...
