Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
I'm hoping that the mileage I'm getting on my stock 82 is not normal and I can fix it. First I need to know what is normal. I would bet there are others that would like to know this also and I know that it was done years ago. Did they post mileage on cars when C3's were new? I do not think so but if so does anyone have that data?
If you please could we have what you are running and if it is not basically stock what you have done that could affect mileage, what the car is, freeway-open road mileage, Mostly in town mileage, 50/50 Normal mixture of in town and road.
Corvette configuration: 82 stock auto transmission
Mileage Freeway: 12 mpg
Mileage in town: unknown
Mileage 50/50: 11mpg

Vette(s): 1969 convertible L71 427/435 4-speed black interior
I have a '69 427/435...3 carburetors, M21 transmission, L88 camshaft, 4.11 rear axle.
Mileage? 6mpg...doesn't matter whether I drive it highway or around town, fast or slow...the mileage doesn't change. I get roughly 125-150 miles to a tank of gasoline.
Smiles per mile? Off the chart!

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.

Have never done much around town driving to check it, but my basically stock 79 L48 with the 3.55 rear gets about 14 mpg on the highway. It's good to have a 25 gal. tank, though!

Hi Gilbert,
I got 18.5 MPG on the last road trip (220 miles or so) at 70-75 MPH. That is before the new plugs. The next tank will give me mostly around town numbers. Update: Around town the next tank gave me 16.25 MPG. Around town is really 65 MPH for 25-30% of the time and Stop and go fast for the rest..... I found the timing was set for 12* and I just reset it to 10*. It runs a bit hotter now but, seems smoother getting to 40-50 MPH.
82 CFI only mod is a 85 higher pressure/flow fuel pump. 59,000 miles

$1.65 a gallon wow was gas ever that cheap? Actually I remember haveing to pay .45 cents for a gallon of gas for my mini bike, and no it did not have wooden wheels.

Effiningham trip was all over the place 15, 18, and the best was 21mpg just after I put the new coil in

My 82' CE is stock and numbers matching. This is with my driving techniques.
Town is stop and fast take off 13mpg and stop and slow take off 16mpg.
Highway mileage is 70mph steady with cruise on/off 26mpg, 75mph steady with cruise on/off 24mpg. At times I tend to play on the highway...
so it varies. I have gone 400 miles without stoping for gas and that's when my low fuel light (2 gals left) came on.

Hope this helps your problem.

Vette(s): Silver 1974 Convertible - L82 4 speed
Low miles (was only 8,900 when I bought it in March 2006) - Now 54K miles. Original owner bought it as an investment for son's college expenses.
2008 Jetstream Blue Convertible
14-16 is an average on my 74 L-82 4 speed. I stick around 70 on the highway on trips
I wanted a Corvette my whole life, but I never dreamed of all the wonderful people I would meet because of it!
Stock '82.
Cruising at 65 mph- 25+
Cruising at 75 mph- 20-22
Stop and go, easy on the pedal- 19-21
Driving the Tail of the Dragon- 12, but loved every foot of it.
With the AC on it drops a little.

When I had the stock Cross-fire I got about 25 highway, around 70 mph. Around town I got about 17. With the new ZZ4 engine, 3.55 rear, I get about 20-21 highway and about 15-16 around town.
Your's is way off the mark. Hope you find whats causing the low mileage.
